What are your thoughts on this screening tool? I use smokeless and am fairly convinced of your assertions abot the risks, but I did pay an extra $20 to my dentist to pay for the Velscope screening during my last visit.

It seems like a little bit of a gimmack, but I can afford $20 for a little extra peace of mind.

You might find the following page answers some of your concerns.

<a href="http://www.ddsgadget.com/ddsgadgetwp/velscop-early-detection-of-oral-cancer">Early Detection of Oral Cancer: Is Velscope Reliable?</a>

Upshot is that the process while not being able to diagnose cancer does seem to be better than the naked eye at finding abnormalities.

That being said, oral cancer is rare enough that the worth of this procedure tends toward the, as you say, peace of mind.
